Experience the grace and history of the South with guided tours of Savannah, Charleston, and Tybee Island—complete with plantations, coastal views, and unforgettable Southern hospitality.
Day1: May 5—Travel to Meridian, MS and tour Merrehope Mansion. Overnight at Drury Inn in Meridian, MS (D)
Day 2: May 6—Savannah, GA. Will be our home for the next 4 nights in the heart of the historic district at The Hampton Inn Savannah, just steps away from Savannah River, history and food. (B,D)
Day 3: May 7—This morning we will explore Savannah’s Lowcountry by boat and spot Atlantic bottlenose dolphins and other marine fauna. Lunch will be at the Pirates House then we will have a guided tour of Savannah sights plus the famous Bonaventure Cemetery featured in “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil”. Known for its haunting beauty & ornate sculptures. Dinner is at The Old Pink House or similar. (B,L,D)
Day 4: May 8—Today we’ll visit Charleston, SC and the oldest plantation, Boone Plantation, which includes lunch. Next, we will board the Charleston Princess for a harbor cruise with stunning waterfront views and history. Dinner will be in the historic district at Market Center with shopping time afterwards. Day 5: May 9—This morning we will visit the Tybee Lighthouse and Museum, Georgia’s oldest and tallest lighthouse. You’ll have time for lunch, shopping or strolling the beach at Tybee Island before we return to Savannah where you will have the afternoon & evening to explore on your own.(B)
Day 6: May 10—Today, we will say good-bye to Savannah as we make our way back to Meridian, MS for the night. (B,D)
Day 7: May 11—You are in for a treat today. We will visit Frogmore! Frogmore is the only cotton plantation in the South offering a comprehensive guided tour that fully explains the causes and effects of change on a working cotton plantation from the 1700's through today. Frogmore is a one-of-a-kind tour since the owners are the costumed guides along with their staff.
You’ll receive the most thorough explanation of slave culture and the plantation system in America, based on former slave narratives and extensive archives while viewing the tools and antiques in the authentically restored dependency buildings on the property. You will enjoy a box lunch as we make our way home remembering all the beautiful places we visited!(B,L)
