Day 1 & 2: Travel days.
Day 3: Today we make our way to our nation’s capital city. I am working on a tour of the White House. Overnight in DC.
Day 4: More history awaits us today as we travel to Lancaster, PA for Amish tour and lunch. Then we’re off to New York City for dinner and a Broadway Play. Overnight in Secaucus, NJ.
Day 5: We begin our day with a guided tour of NYC. Plus, a harbor boat tour to view the Statue of Liberty and the NYC skyline! Then experience the 9/11 Museum at the World Trade Center. After dinner, we’ll view NYC from the top of the Empire State Building. WOW! Overnight in Secaucus, NJ.
Day 6: Say good-bye to the Big Apple and hello to the heart of New England. Lunch is a special meal with fascinating history at Salem Cross Inn. Originally built by a grandson of the first child born on the Mayflower and furnished throughout with American antiques and huge hearths. I know you’ll find the Inn alone is worth the visit, but I also know that you’ll find the food outstanding! Then on to Quincy Market for dinner & shopping. Overnight in Peabody, MA.
Day 7: Before leaving the Boston area, we’ll tour the House of Seven Gables that inspired the story written by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Then we travel up the coast of Maine to Kennebunkport for some shopping and a tour. A real treat is in store for us tonight with an authentic lobster bake! Keep your bib on—it’s messy but delicious! Overnight in Ogunquit, ME.
Day 8: Beauty abounds as we travel to North Conway, New Hampshire and get a close-up view of the White Mountains on the Kancamagus Highway, one of the region’s most pristine scenic drives. It crosses the 2,860-foot-high Kancamagus Pass, and then drops into a beautiful, deep valley. A tram ride awaits us at Franconia Notch. Beautiful views from atop Cannon Mountain. This afternoon we’ll cross over into Vermont where maple syrup is “on tap” when we visit the Morse Farm to learn about their 200-year-old maple sugar tradition. Enjoy the hospitality of this friendly family and lick your lips over a special maple-flavored threat they’ve prepared for us. Overnight in Stowe, VT.
Day 9: Today begins with a “sweet” visit to the Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream factory nestled in the Green Mountains
just north of the village of Waterbury. See how this delicious ice cream is made—then sample some for yourself! Our guide will show us the beautiful fall colors of Vermont plus take us to a cider mill to learn what they make with all those apples! The rest of the afternoon will be enjoying the majestic fall foliage of Stowe, and the surrounding countryside. We’ll stop for a group photo at one of the many covered bridges! Overnight in Stowe, VT.
Day 10: We will ferry across Lake Champlain this morning and enter Upper New York where fall color abounds in the majestic Adirondack Mountains. This afternoon we’ll take a ride on the Maid of the Mist for an up-close and personal view of the Canadian Falls, American Falls and the Bridal Veil in Niagara Falls, NY. Overnight in Niagara Falls.
Day 11: Today we will travel the coast of Lake Erie Plus have lunch in an Amish home. Overnight in Columbus, OH.
Day 12: We’ll explore “Federal Hill,” the Rowan family’s mansion that inspired Stephen Foster to write, “My Old Kentucky Home.” Lunch will be in The Old Talbott Tavern in Bardstown, KY. Overnight in Nashville, TN.
Day 13: As we travel home, we’ll play games, sing and reminisce of all the beautiful and historic places we’ve been and seen. America is still the greatest place on earth!
